Booster NZX-listed funds update: innovation & primary industries - October

For quarter ending 30 September 2025.

The Booster Innovation Fund (BIF)’s diversification strategy is demonstrated again with investment in two new companies working in very different sectors:

  1. Cadmus Animal Health is developing an immunotherapeutic vaccine to treat companion animals like cats and dogs who have periodontal disease, which can cause heart, liver and kidney disease and is expensive to treat.
  2. Open data provider Wych provides secure, real-time financial information and data exchange for financial institutions – helping markets move toward compliant open banking and payment solutions.

Meanwhile other companies that BIF invests in are making waves internationally:

  • The Wall Street Journal has highlighted Allegro Energy’s battery technology for its safety profile compared to Lithium-Ion batteries.
  • Calocurb, maker of the appetite suppressant supplement derived from hops, was awarded the Exporter of the Year to the US (Consumer Goods category) by the American Chamber of Commerce NZ.
  • NZ Business magazine profiled environmentally friendly cleaning products company Cleanery and its progress in cracking entry to the US Market.

The Private Land and Property Fund (PLPF)’s recent revaluations reflect a strong dairy sector and some challenging conditions in the viticulture sector.

Three Southland dairy farms in the PLPF portfolio have had an uplift in value amid recent high milk prices with Fonterra expecting strong prices to continue.

Meanwhile an oversupply of grapes and some uncertainty about long-term demand for global wine has resulted in lower valuations of some Marlborough and Hawkes Bay vineyard/winery assets. However, the New Zealand wine brand is reported to be strong against competitors with its lighter palate profiles. Meanwhile wine tourism here continues to grow, with 27% of tourists visiting cellars.
