Booster NZX-listed funds update: innovation & primary industries – July

Here are some highlights from the quarter ending 30 June 2026.

BIF-backed Innovation companies moving ahead

It was an active quarter across the Booster Innovation Fund (BIF) portfolio, with companies securing new partnerships, progressing capital raises, gaining market traction and earning industry recognition.

BIF made a new investment into Linca, which is developing a process to recover critical metals such as lithium, nickel and cobalt from “black mass”. This is the metal-rich material left after lithium-ion batteries are shredded and mechanically processed.

BIF also made follow-on investments into Marama Labs and MARS Bioimaging.

  • Marama Labs is commercialising its CloudSpec technology, which improves analysis of cloudy liquids in life sciences.
  • MARS Bioimaging is commercialising advanced scanners that enable high-resolution colour imaging for medical diagnostics, with a first FDA-approved product for scanning hands and wrists.

Two BIF portfolio companies also announced major partnerships during the quarter.

Primary sector news for the Private Land and Property Fund (PLPF).

PLPF also had an active quarter, with two investments within the wholesale portfolio moving into crop conversion.

  • At Waimea, around 46 hectares of vineyard land on the Waimea Plains is being converted into a high-density apple orchard by Hope Orchard Limited Partnership. Around 40 canopy hectares are being planted across several apple varieties, selected for established international demand and suitability to Tasman’s climate and soil profile. The development uses modern growing techniques designed to support higher yields per hectare and reduce weather-related crop risk, including a two-dimensional “fruit wall” system and full hail netting protection.
  • At Woodland Road, Woodland Road Orchard Limited Partnership has secured 4.33 hectares of SunGold kiwifruit licence through Zespri’s 1 May 2026 auction. The licence will support the conversion of an equivalent area of existing avocado land in the Bay of Plenty to SunGold production.

A key part of PLPF’s investment strategy is diversification of property assets and income streams across different sectors and we continue to assess these opportunities to grow PLPF’s long-term investment objectives.
