Transferring superannuation into KiwiSaver

Find out how to transfer your savings into your KiwiSaver scheme account from your Australian superannuation fund or other New Zealand superannuation scheme or savings plan.

And, learn about your options for transferring your overseas pension funds from a country other than Australia.

Australian super transfers

If you have savings in a complying Australian superannuation scheme but now live permanently in New Zealand, you can transfer your account balance to a KiwiSaver scheme. This transfer won't cause any entry or exit taxes, and Booster won't charge you a fee.

Your Australian superannuation savings will be converted to New Zealand dollars at the exchange rate on the day your money enters New Zealand.

Note: any funds transferred from Australian complying superannuation schemes to a KiwiSaver scheme will not qualify for the first-home withdrawal.

My funds are held by a complying Australian super scheme

Great! To start the transfer process, simply contact us. We'll email you the forms and information you need to know to get the ball rolling.

My funds are held by the Australian Tax Office

If your Australian super funds are currently held by the Australian Tax Office (ATO), you'll need to transfer them to an Australian complying superannuation scheme before you can transfer them to your KiwiSaver.

To do this, you'll need to open an account with an Australian Super provider. If you're not sure what to do, contact us and we'll be in touch to help.

I don't know where my Australian Super Funds are held

If you don't know where your Australian Super Funds are held, you'll need to contact the Australian Tax Authority to find out.

Contact form

If you have savings in an Australian complying superannuation scheme but now live permanently in New Zealand, you can transfer your Australian Super account balance to the Booster KiwiSaver scheme.

Simply complete this form and we'll email you the forms and information you need to know to get the ball rolling.

Transfers from other super schemes

If you've got a New Zealand superannuation scheme or savings plan that's not a KiwiSaver scheme, you may want to transfer those savings into your Booster KiwiSaver Scheme member account.

If you're a Booster KiwiSaver Scheme member, you can start this process by downloading and completing the form (this form can be found in mybooster), then returning it to Booster or to your financial adviser.

UK pension transfers

Since April 2015 KiwiSaver schemes have been unable to accept transfers from UK pension schemes, as they no longer have status as Qualifying Recognised Overseas Pension Schemes (QROPS).

However, Booster manages a superannuation scheme that does have QROPS status. This is the Booster SuperScheme which may be suitable for your needs.

We recommend that you get New Zealand and UK tax advice before making any transfer.

Transfers from other countries

If you are a New Zealand resident with pension funds in other countries, you’ll need to check whether the laws in your country of origin allow transfers into New Zealand. You can find out more about this on the IRD’s website, or from a financial adviser.
